Apple's iOS 27 cycle is moving along. According to a Hans India report published on 29 September 2026, iOS 27.2 was already in testing, with Siri AI set to expand to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The report added that 9to5Mac expected iOS 27.1 and 27.2 to arrive before the end of October. Release timing can change, so check Apple's official announcements for the current status.
Whether or not a given update has reached your customers yet, each point release is a reminder to test your app.
Why point releases matter
Updates such as 27.1 and 27.2 can bring behaviour changes, new system features and bug fixes. Customers update quickly, often within weeks, and an app that worked perfectly on the previous version can show new problems.
What to test
1. Core flows on the latest iOS version
- Sign-up and login, including biometric login
- Payments and checkout
- Notifications and deep links
- Camera, location, contacts and photo access
- Background tasks and app refresh
2. Permissions and privacy prompts Look for changes in how permission dialogs appear and whether your explanations still make sense.
3. Layout and design Check different screen sizes, text sizes, dark mode and right-to-left or longer languages.
4. Performance and battery Measure launch time, memory use and battery drain on a mid-range device as well as a new one.
5. Voice and Siri-related features If your app integrates with Siri, Shortcuts or system intelligence features, test those actions in each supported language. Siri's expansion to new languages makes it worth checking that your app's action names and responses make sense when used by voice.
6. Crash and error monitoring Watch your crash reports after each iOS release. A rise in crashes on one version points to a compatibility problem.
Prepare your build pipeline
- Install the beta SDK and test builds early, not on release day.
- Keep a list of test devices across iOS versions.
- Automate UI tests for your top ten user journeys.
- Plan a fast hotfix path, so a critical bug can reach the App Store quickly.
- Follow App Store requirements. Apple periodically raises the minimum SDK for new submissions and updates, so check the current deadlines.
Communicate with users
If you find a known issue, say so in a short in-app notice or on your support page. Update your release notes honestly.
Android too
Test on the Android versions and devices your customers actually use, since they vary far more widely. Look at your analytics before choosing test devices.
