In Google's India Year in Search 2025, artificial intelligence broke into the top ten for the first time. Google Gemini ranked second overall, and the leading AI searches included Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and Perplexity. Interestingly, ChatGPT did not appear in the top ten, even though it is among the most widely used tools. The reason is that "trending" measures the growth of interest, not the total number of users.
That is an important lesson for business owners: the most searched tool is not automatically the right tool for your business.
A quick, neutral snapshot
- Gemini is Google's AI assistant, closely tied to Google's ecosystem, including Workspace and Android.
- Grok is xAI's assistant, closely linked to the X platform.
- DeepSeek is a Chinese AI lab known for capable models at low cost, available as an app and through an API.
- Perplexity works like an answer engine, giving responses with source links, which makes it popular for research.
Features, pricing and quality in this field change every few months, so test current versions rather than relying on last year's reviews.
Seven questions that matter more than hype
- What is the task? Drafting, research, coding, image creation, customer support and data analysis each favour different tools.
- Where does your data go? Check where information is processed and stored, who can see it and how long it is kept. This matters most when staff paste customer or financial data into consumer apps.
- Does it have a reliable API? If you want to build the AI into your website, CRM or ERP, you need stable access, clear limits and sensible pricing, not just a chat app.
- How does it handle Indian languages? Test Hindi, Marathi and Hinglish with real examples from your customers.
- What will it cost at your volume? A tool that is cheap for ten messages a day can be expensive at ten thousand.
- How reliable is it? Look at uptime, rate limits and support, especially for customer-facing use.
- How easy is it to switch? Avoid designing your product around one vendor's quirks.
Run a two-week bake-off
You do not need a long evaluation. Try this:
- Collect 20 real tasks from your business, such as customer emails, product descriptions and report summaries.
- Run each task through two or three tools.
- Have the people who do the work score the answers for accuracy, tone and usefulness.
- Record time saved, cost and any errors that would have caused harm.
- Choose the tool that wins on your tasks, not on a benchmark chart.
Plan for more than one model
Many businesses end up using different models for different jobs: one for fast, low-cost replies, another for complex reasoning, another for search. A well-designed integration keeps the AI provider behind a thin layer in your code, so you can swap models as prices and quality change without rebuilding your product.
Set simple company rules
- Do not paste confidential customer data into public AI tools.
- Use business accounts with proper data controls, not personal ones.
- Have a person review anything that is sent to customers or used in a decision.
- Keep a short list of approved tools and review it every quarter.

Frequently asked questions
Which AI tool was most searched in India in 2025?+
According to Google's India Year in Search 2025, Google Gemini was the second most-searched topic overall and led the AI-specific list, followed by queries such as Grok, DeepSeek and Perplexity.
Does a trending AI tool mean it is the best choice for my business?+
No. Trending reflects growth in search interest, not quality or suitability. Test tools on your own tasks and check data handling, API access, language support and cost.
Should my business use only one AI model?+
Not necessarily. Many businesses use different models for different tasks, and a flexible integration lets you switch providers as prices and quality change.
